A five-alarm fire destroyed a 4-story apartment complex in Edgewater, known as the Avalon. It was home to more than 500 families, including hundreds of students, who now find themselves homeless. This is precisely the reason for which Giants of Generosity was founded: “to provide emergency-relief funding and other vitally needed social services to people who are experiencing critical, life-altering situations.” Giants of Generosity immediately contacted local officials in Edgewater to offer support. We had been designated as the depository for funds during Hurricane Sandy Relief, and at that time we were given the mandate to screen requests for relief before distributing nearly half a million dollars. As funds comes in for fire victims, they will be screened to determine the greatest need.
