One afternoon while playing basketball with friends, Bong fell fracturing his skull. When rushed to Englewood Hospital doctors removed his skull bone to relieve the pressure, offering the family little hope for his recovery. Bong remained in a comatose state for over eighteen months. Once his bone was restored, he awoke from the coma calling his wife’s name. He spent three years in the hospital and then returned home, while his wife tried to care for him. After losing her job, Edwina became his sole caregiver. Giants of Generosity reached out to the Filipino community and they raised over $12,000 to assist the family with medical bills.
